Spectacular use of light and composition. The lovely deep blue sky that radiates a fine mist of cyan encases the image in a magical, soft light; in the richly textured forest, a colder and more desolate side is brought out, and in the background, a shroud of enchantment makes the scene rather mystical.
The soft glow that seeps into the perimeter of many of the objects, particularly the nearer trees, creates an exceptionally serene atmosphere, of course reinforced by the use of blue, a relatively calming tone.

The nearby trees that loom in front of the audience's perspective add a lovely natural frame to the overall look of the image, as if the audience was walking through a forest and stumbled upon the scene. The immaculate detail shown in the shadows give the impression that the responder has been trekking through a dark forest, at that; gnarled branches, piles of leaves, debris; all of this adds to the desolate nature of the forest.
The use of that foreground adds a fresh sense of discovery and majesty, perhaps even sanction; and upon seeing the majestic clearing with an even more spectacular structure looming overhead in a magical blue sky, it directly touches the audience's perspectives with a genuine setting and conveying a significantly more powerful feel to the overall feel of the piece.
Evidently, this is a hugely key component of the image, and it truly does look fantastic paired with the mystical background in contrast to the desolate forest. A town, at long last! Very appropriate title.

Adding on to the marvelous composition, the looming citadel in the distance is made so much more daunting and powerful by the use of height in relative to the perspective. The hills that slowly build up climax at the structure; paired with the light that parallels in terms of its vagueness, the building at the top of the scene becomes shrouded in a mist that glorifies its stature.

Overall, I have to say the use of the desolate foreground, enveloped in darkness in contrast with the majestic background, bathed in a serene, deep blue is highly effective. Spectacular.
Awesome work!

I think the 3 trees that line up on the left feel very unnatural.
Truthfully the painting technique is wonderful and delicate, yet most of the compositional elements look artificial. There are tangents and cutouts and the separation of elements is so deliberate that it makes me think about technical things rather than just experiencing the art.
I'm just trying to helpful, maybe give you that little push to be even better.
Happy new year.

Hi Mutiny, you're right, I was struggling hard with this piece, the most struggle part is where the painting is 'nearly there', then I realized that the composition is not right yet.. and the painting just went too far to restart from scratch..
and you're right, currently I'm still reworking My composition to sit nicely with My workflow, it's a nice challenge I would say..

and thank you very much, your particular comment 'There are tangents and cutouts and the separation of elements is so deliberate that it makes me think about technical things rather than just experiencing the art.' is gives Me another viewing angle for My art, believe it or not, I gave this to 2 person before I upload it, and they say OK, but My heart was reluctant actually..

so to speak, your push is work on me :)

happy new year :D
